Okuribito is a Japanese movie about Daigo Kobayashi, a Tokyo cello player and a husband.
When the orchestra Daigo Kobayashi plays for disbanded, he and wife Mika moved back to his birthplace Yamagata. To earn a living, he applied for a job that specializes in “journeys.” He got hired only to find out that “journey” means to travel to the land of the dead and his work is to prepare the dead body. As days pass, Daigo came to realize the dignity and grandeur of his new job. Now he must face the consequences of breaking a cultural taboo and come to terms with his past to become a better person.
Beautiful simplicity, slice of life-ish, comic and elegant. Okuribito is a must-see and a must-have. The subtlety of philosophical discussions will catch you off-guard. A product of expertise and passion.
