A manga by the late great Satoshi Kon.
Satoshi Kon is a writer, director, animator and mangaka. Some of his popular works are Tokyo Godfathers, Memories, Perfect Blue, Paprika and Millennium Actress.
A year ago, Satoshi Kon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died last August 24, 2010. He was working on a new animated feature The Dream Machine which is due for release in 2011.
One of his mangas is Kaikisen – Return to the Sea. Yosuke is the 24th generation in a family of Shinto priests. One day, his father came in rushing to the shrine with the local media to show off his family’s treasure, a Mermaid’s egg.
Kaikisen is a story set in a small town of Amide where urbanization threatens hundreds of years of lore and legends.
