A new treasure – NoyGinji Interaktiv. Nonoy Pillora of Asin and his Israeli wife, Ginji delve into folk musik.
While listening to some random songs at listen.grooveshark.com, I heard a beautiful version of the Rice Song, Lemlunay Salidumay by Noy and Ginji.
The voice of this Noy is familiar while Ginji’s bears the passion of Cynthia Alexander. It took 2 days before I finally found out who the singers were behind the song. Nonoy Pillora and his Israeli wife, Ginji.
Nonoy is a Filipino; a singer, songwriter, a composer, and an arranger . He had been in the Phillippine music scene in the last three decades of his life. He started singing with Saro Banares (pronounced; Banyares) as a duo and called themselves ‘ Mike & Cesar .’ Later Nene (Lolita Carbon) joined them and together they founded one of the Philippines’ most popular group named: ASIN …which means ‘salt’, short for ’ Salt of the Earth’. Both were also singers, songwriters, composers and arrangers. He had performed with them in almost all parts of the Philippine archipelago, in the ten years that they were together (1977-1988).
Ginji is an Israeli, whose passion is to sing. She met Nonoy in the year 1990 and since then, had been performing with him in the last eighteen years that they were together …up to the present. Singing in both Filipino and English language.
Their debut album as a duo was enhanced with a variety of ethnic musical instruments that they have adopted from the tribes of the north and south Philippines. Some of the musical instruments were made by some friends and the musicians themselves, with the perspective to create harmony and authenticity to Nonoy’s compositions which can be categorized as a, contemporary ethnic album. The album was called ‘…ang karugtong’ (…the continuation), another link to the chain of legacy that Nonoy has sown in his past musical life.
Their new songs, most of them written in English (not yet recorded) have taken a new route and has taken the path towards self -knowledge and spiritual awareness; maintaining some forms of ethnicity and authenticity in its melodies, with the additional influence of the existing beats and rhythm of the modern world.
At present; they are based in Israel, constantly trying to share their energy through their music, dedicated to all the inhabitants of the world.
To whoever concerned and interested and, …on whatever level.
