I finally finished watching Last Exile. It’s one of the best animes of the Steam Punk genre. If you’re looking for a super-steampunk anime, try Steamboy.
Last Exile has solid plot. Somewhere in the middle of the series, you’ll notice a lot of bottle episodes. (A bottle episode is an episode with a relatively small budget.) This is not surprising for a 26-episode series like Last Exile. In episodes 23-26, the animation went back to what it was in the first few episodes.
Last Exile did not spare some of its main characters; Alex Rowe, Luciola and Deeo were both killed. I watched Last Exile before but barely understood how it ended. This time it became clear that the people of Norikia and Dusis (and maybe even the Guild) migrated to “Aoi Hoshi” (Blue Star, could be in reference to Earth).
I had to watch two Ghibli movies to settle my “anxiety” over the badly-animated episodes of Last Exile. Laputa and Mononoke Hime were super-good. The cyberpunk feel of Laputa is amazing and the folktale aura of Mononoke makes it one of Hayao Miyazaki’s best works.
More animes to come. I have to watch Tokyo Godfathers, for the fourth time, for the holiday season. And I’m looking for other animes that have the same crude yet dynamic animation as Kemonozume. Recommend some titles!
Happy Anime, everyone.
